Dear friend

Firstly hello to all new members - you'll soon get used to the rather chaotic nature of these news updates :-)

If you've not been checking the message board lately then you might not be aware that Lee the Local has been arrested for criminal damage to quarry equipment and is currently on remand in Leicester. Messages of support can be sent to

There has been snow on site, more donations of warm stuff would be welcome

but
There is currently a foot-and-mouth disease scare. In case you weren't around at the time of the last outbreak in the late 1960's, this is a nasty disease in sheep, cattle and pigs for which there is no cure other than to cull any animals that have any chance of being infected and burn the carcases.

Humans cannot catch the disease, but you can be a carrier - so can dogs. Please be sensible in the countryside - keep dogs on leads and don't go near any animals while the scare is on. Stick to paths and take heed of any special instructions posted on fences and gates. If there is a disinfectant bath for your boots, use it! You can find more information at http://www.maff.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/fmd/default.htm

In Derbyshire there is a special hotline, 01629 761326 or 761141. As soon as the all-clear is announced, we will let you know by means of another mailshot.

On a brighter note, we hope to be able to bring you more photos soon.

See you soon,
The Nine Ladies Web Site Team
