GUIDELINES FOR WEB DESIGN

Please bear the following in mind when uploading anything to this site:
  1. NO GRAPHICS ON THE FRONT PAGE!!
    We like graphics but they take too long to load. Please put graphically-intense stuff on a subpage, and link to that from the main section.
  2. USE ONLY .JPG OR .GIF GRAPHICS FILES.
    .BMP files take far far far too long to load, and some WWW clients (notably early versions of Netscape) don't like them.
  3. NO SOUNDS ON THE FRONT PAGE!!
    For the same reason as graphics.
  4. PLEASE STICK TO 8.3 CHARACTER FILENAMES, AND USE small letters.
    There are reasons for this which will become apparent later.
  5. REMEMBER NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME SYSTEM AS YOU.
    Please try to consider what will happen if other people are viewing your material on a low-spec PC, for instance with only a 640*480 monitor.
  6. IF IN DOUBT, DON'T MUCK ABOUT.
    It's easy to mess things up for other users.
If you are creating a page from scratch, please download proforma.htm (general page), upd.htm (news update page) or picture.htm (picture with caption) and use that for a template. (Don't actually click these links, they're just there to show you the filenames and also to satisfy an awkward usage condition about everything on the site being linked back to the index page.)
