Woodmansterne Cricket Club

The Colts

Colts Report 2003

52 boys played for the club during the season. We entered teams at 4 age groups in the East Surrey League, with the under 9's being a new venture. Using a soft ball for the youngsters, this proved to be very successful for the league .

This year we have had no shortage of helpers and thanks should go especially to Jerry Geldard, James Edgar and Delroy Gordon for managing the teams. George Miller, Ken Wright, Mark Lander and Robert Hicks have regularly helped with the coaching. The Colts section finished the season with a surplus of £357, after spending £400 toward the new bowling machine.

On the playing side, there were only a handful of victories, but there were several games that were lost only very narrowly. Next season we are optimistic that we can do better than this. We hope to have a portable net next year, which should help with the coaching.

A new venture for next season is an under 17 competition which the East Surrey League is trying out for the first time. This age group represents a link between the Colts and the senior teams.

The 2004 season starts on March 1st in Woodmansterne Village/School Hall and hopefully by the start of the season on May 1st, with the use of the new bowling machine and net, we will have a successful season.

Special note for Parents

Another benefit of choosing Woodmansterne as your club is that it now has its own Child Welfare Officers. John Munday and Jerry Geldard, whose own children play for the club, are certified Child Welfare Officers. The ECB have encouraged this initiative for clubs, and Woodmansterne have been quick to respond to it.

Please contact John Munday (01737 360294) or George Miller (020 8395 7471) if you are interested in playing for the Colts.
