Wyre Forest Swimming Club was formed by the amalgamation of Kidderminster and Stourport Swimming Clubs in March 1998. Kidderminster Swimming Club had been in existence in various forms from the early 1900’s whilst Stourport had been formed in the 1960’s. Both clubs had a rich history of service to the community and have trained children and young adults in the sport of competitive swimming with good results, many making the Worcester County, Midland District and National Championships. We are proud of the traditions inherited from the two clubs and are sure that these will be maintained.

The recently formed Wyre Forest Swimming Club is affiliated to the A.S.A. Midland District, Worcester County Swimming Association and the Royal Life-Saving Society. The Club is also affiliated to a number of competitive leagues, such as the Ross Junior League, Nuneaton Junior League, Mercian Summer League, Speedo League and the Worcester Winter League etc. We generally have two teams competing in these competitions and travel most weekends to galas.

The club is administered by an Executive Committee which is elected annually at the AGM; it meets on a monthly basis, usually the 2nd Wednesday in the month. There are three Sub-Committees: Swimming, Finance and one dealing with the Club Championships; these meet on a needs basis. Other Sub-Committees are formed when there is a clear requirement to carry out activities outside of the Executive Committee. The club is a non-profit making organisation.

A semi-professional Chief Coach is usually engaged by the club to take overall responsibility for the swimming and coaching aspects and to ensure that the club's aims and objectives are achieved. At the moment of going to press Godfrey Short who is a fully qualified ASA Club Coach is carrying out these duties on a completely voluntary basis. He is supported by a group of well-qualified volunteers including an ASA Coach, Teachers and Assistant Teachers. All classes and training groups are in the care of appropriately qualified staff. Our aim is to encourage each individual to achieve full potential according to personal ambition; depending upon natural talent, ability, level of commitment and, of course, AGE.

Most essential to all the club’s activities are the volunteer helpers without whom no amateur club could exist. Club competitions and galas can be held ONLY if we have STARTERS, RECORDERS, REFEREES, JUDGES, TIMEKEEPERS AND COMPETITORS’ STEWARDS plus an army of supporting roles. If you have any expertise, which you can offer to the club, we are always eager to accept and promise not to exploit your commitment. The club is based at the Stourport Sports Centre where swimming sessions are held on most days of the week. In addition, the club hires the pool at the Holy Trinity School, Kidderminster and at Abberley Hall School, Abberley.

We currently have about 240 swimming members, 200 of whom are under 17 years of age. Each member pays an Annual Membership Fee when joining or in January when renewing membership and a monthly Swim Fee dependant upon the group to which the member is attached. It is important to emphasise that if membership has not been paid, the swimmer is not covered on our insurance policy. The Swim Fee is payable by 11 monthly instalments from February until December.
