Henry Piper

Sharing the roles of Band Leader and Resident Curry Gourmet, Henry has been involved with the English (and Kentish) folk 'scene' for more than twenty years. After his early days with the Hartley Morris, he moved on to found the Motley Morris, during which time he devised many of the dances still regularly performed by them to this day.

The band 'Rags & Tatters' was originally formed in 1982, by the principal musicians of the morris team - at this time, Henry(melodeon), Rosie (anglo concertina)and Steve (fiddle), along with Dave Masterson on drums, and Justin Bateman on banjo.

Henry also plays regularly in Harding & Piper's Ragtimers, a Dixieland-style jazz band - regularly to be seen at Sunday lunchtime jazz sessions at many Kentish hostelries! If you are interested in hiring the jazz band, you should contact either Henry.

Henry is very fond of classic cars, and has restored several Minis, a TR7 and currently drives around in a replica of a 1960’s Shelby AC Cobra.
