| Definitions of mentor:-
Mentoring has its roots in Homer’s Odyssey. The
Goddess Athene assumed the identity of a noble, Mentor, in order to
guide and teach Telemachus, the son of Odysseus.
Mentoring leans towards counselling. It aims always to
empower the other and to transfer ownership of the learning process
to the mentee. It can be passive or active - I can listen and allow
you to focus yourself, and encourage reflection, or I can make
suggestions to help you draw out from yourself what is required.
Experience and common-sense are needed to be a mentor.
Mentoring can happen via email (also Microsoft Net Meeting®)
or over the phone, or face to face. Whatever the medium, I want you to
feel that you can have contact with me whenever you need it. |
