News from our partners overseas--Autumn '05

Bishop Adeba--Yei Diocese                           Greetings to you and blessings from Yei in South Sudan. I am delighted to have this opportunity of writing to you to bring our profound thanks to your organisation for sending us the container which arrived here very safely.

All in all the contents were largely not tampered with. However, I was told that somewhere at a certain border it was opened by custom officers. In the meantime, looks as though not much was taken. May be a computer or so is missing. But it is not a major loss although I wouldn't have loved a needle to get missing. These things do happen in this part of the world.

Distribution has taken please and may I inform you that this has been a blessing to many needy people in our 63 parishes. The situation in Yei is one of excitement due to the conclusion of the war following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2005. What we are already overwhelmed with is the arrival of great numbers of returnees from the refugee camps in East Africa and those displaced to northern Sudan. Many people are voluntarily returning on their own. We receive between 50 to 75 people every week at the moment.

The children in our two schools have been enjoying the foods very much indeed.

We respectfully ask your esteemed organisation please to send more containers if that is possible.

Bishop Francis Loyo  -  Rokon Diocese
When Bishop Loyo visited Folkestone in April, he spoke of the challenges facing the returning people after the peace agreement. - and of projects close to his heart : a fishing boat to help women earn a living fishing in the Nile (traditionally by rod and line), and the need for a church building which would not only be a place of worship but a community centre where people can gather. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Lyminge, a boat will be purchased and sent on the October container.
