Walter and Hugh Kelly established the firm of WR & H Kelly in 1953 in the post-war development of Shortlees in the town of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.
Kelly's Bakery has been faithfully serving the local community ever since. Ian Dalziel, the present owner, was the Foreman in the bakehouse from 1961 until he bought the business in 1976. |
Ian Dalziel has been a baker since 1946 when he started his career in a bakery in the village of Catrine at the age of 14. |
This experience and a strong appreciation of tradition has helped maintain the quality of the baking in WR & H Kelly. This has been passed to Ronald and Irene, son and daughter who also help run the business with their mother Betty Dalziel. |

Helped out in the front shop by Susan and Lorraine, the total staff complement of WR & H Kelly is six. Except Sundays, the shop opens every morning at 6.30am. Early morning customers, on their way to work, can experience the aroma of freshly baked morning rolls being removed from the ovens. All day long, the different baking aromas waft into the front shop from the rear bakehouse. We're sorry we can't have a button on this site which you can click to experience the smell!!
From around 8.30am pans of Scotch Pies are being placed in the ovens while others cool in the racks. These pies are a particular speciality of WR & H Kelly and customers often come from all around Kilmarnock to buy them. |

Apart from morning rolls and scotch pies, Kelly's also bake loaves, scones, pastries, sponges and cakes. A wide selection of sweets, crisps and soft drinks are also available. WR & H Kelly is one of those few shops who still sell sweets from large jars displayed on shelves.
In addition, tea and coffee as well as hot and cold filled rolls are available. |
