The Isles of Scilly are located in the Atlantic Ocean twenty eight miles south west of Lands End. Only 5 of the 100 islands are inhabited boasting a population of around 2000 people.

St Mary's is the largest island being 2 1/2 miles long and 1 3/4 miles wide whilst the other 4 inhabited islands - Tresco, St Martins, St Agnes and Bryher are smaller still. The other islands being simple rock formations home only to birds and seals.

St Mary's is the hub of commercial and social life and is the link to the Mainland by ferry, plane and helicopter. The Capital of the Islands is Hugh Town which is no bigger than a village but most of the Island's shops and banks are located here.

The Second largest Island is Tresco. Tresco is popular for its amazing variety of scenery. The north of the island is wild and barren whilst the south of the island houses sub-tropic and exotic plants at Abbey Garden. Many plants are not found elsewhere in the United Kingdom due to the weather climates.

St Martin's offers beds of flowers and rolling hills. Take a walk along the cliff paths and enjoy the sights of rare and interesting birds.

St Agnes has the most South-westerly community in the British Isles where flower farming and fishing are the traditional occupations. This island is rich with natural beauty with its unspoilt sandy coves, heath, downland, meadow and a freshwater pool.

Bryher has the smallest community on the Isles of scilly. During Autumn many migratory birds use Bryher as a resting place and gales frequently lash the rugged western coast which faces the full force of the open Atlantic Ocean.

A number of locals operate ferry trips to the various islands throughout the year including some of the uninhabited islands.
