Thursday 31st May 2001 DENVER SAILING CLUB COFFEE MORNING in the Town Hall. Join some of the members and friends of Denver Sailing Club for a morning cup of coffee in a break from the shopping, or just an excuse to pop into the Town Hall. Not all the chat will centre around sailing so don’t be afraid to admit to
being a land-lubber! There will be a raffle of course. FESTIVAL ART EXHIBITION in the Assembly Room, Downham Market Town Hall. Another chance to see this exhibition which has over one hundred paintings by members of Downham Art Circle. Nearly all of the works of art will be for sale. Admission is free. The Collectors World at HERMITAGE HALL is open again today and there is a special offer of 50p discount on the admission price for all who carry a copy of the Festival Programme when they visit. (One discount per programme.) “TO BOLDY GO……”. Stories of adventure at Downham Market Library in the Priory Centre. Admission is free and this event includes stories and activities for under 8’s. More details from Downham Market Library on 01366 383073. FESTIVAL BABY SHOW at the Howdale Centre. What Festival would be complete without the annual Baby Show? Downham Market Festival Committee could not let the Festival go by without this traditional event being in the programme. There will be three categories – Birth to 6 months; 7months to 12 months; 13 months to 24 months. An independent person will judge all the babies. Entry is just 20p per baby. VISAGE will be there to take photographs of your children and these will be available for you to view at the Town Hall during the opening hours of the Craft Fair on Saturday 2nd June. Purchasing details will be with the display. SILVER THREAD CLUB – OPEN MEETING and ENTERTAINMENT. Downham Market Silver Thread Club meets regularly at Downham Town Hall on Thursday afternoons. Festival week is no exception to this. But what happens at the Silver Thread Club? You are invited to visit them this afternoon and find out answers to your many questions. There will be entertainment especially arranged by members of the Club and of course refreshments will be served. Admission is only 50p, which includes a cup of tea. CHICAGO BRIDGE NIGHT with Downham Market Bridge Club. A different evening this year with the Bridge Club. A fun night of Chicago Bridge with buffet and wine. The venue will be the Red Cross Hall at the junction of Howdale Road with London Road. Tickets, priced £3 each are available from Mr Roger Eaton (01366) 388046. You don’t have to be a member to enjoy the fun. DRAMATIC and MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT. An evening with a difference presented by Downham Market and District Amenity Society. The programme for the evening will be quite varied with something to suit a wide variety of tastes. Downham Amateur Dramatic Society has been established in the Town for more than 50 years and is renowned for its efforts in presenting a wide variety of styles of drama. This evening will show just some of their talents. The musical section of the evening is presented by two well-known local people, Dr Tim Gent and Alan Dean. With the aid of fiddle and keyboard, they will play some instrumental folk music from around the British Isles as well as across the water. Tickets for this evening of entertainment are priced at £4 (including a glass of wine) and are available from Downham Information Centre at The Priory Centre, or Amenity Society members.
