Festival Chairman 2001 – Ray Wales

Downham goes Exploring. I hope you will enjoy the programme, prepared for you by my very hard working committee. With many less members this year it has meant a concentrating of effort to keep up the high standard expected at Downham. I believe with the help of all our contributing Clubs, Societies, and Church's, as well as our sponsors,  we have, and would like to thank them all for their support. At this point I would like to appeal to all the younger members of Downham's community, if you, and your children enjoy Festival week or would like to see some different activities, you must take ownership of your Festival. You would be surprised at how enjoyable preparing the fun and games for your community would be. It is hard work but, for a few hours of your time, you can make a contribution to Downham's way of life and community spirit. A change of Chairman should, I believe, take place at regular intervals to give a fresh approach and renewed enthusiasm, so I will be standing down after this year. I would like to thank all the many people who have helped me to enjoy my time as Chairman especially all committee members. I hope that I will see you all at some time during the week, and with good weather, and a very good programme we should have an enjoyable week once again.
