'In the nightmare future of the forty-first millennium, mankind teeters upon the brink of extinction. The galaxy-spanning Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by ravening aliens, and threatened from within by malevolent creatures and heretical rebels. Wars rage over airless moons, in the dark, twisted depths of hive worlds, and in the cold wastes between stars. From the immaterial realm of warp space, malicious entities send forth their unspeakable minions to slaughter the Emperor's chosen. Everywhere, soulless spectres and slavering monsters are poised to extinguish the life of humanity...'

Warhammer 40,000 (or 40K) is greatly different to Warhammer, featuring a lightning fast, fluid gaming approach. Although somewhat less traditional, the imagery and storylines are incredibly detailed, giving an excellent impression of life in the 41st millennium. There are eight 'races' to choose from, although many of these split into very distinct sub-groups.

The Space Marines - Humanity's finest warriors, genetically engineering into deadly fighters...

Imperial Guard - When great wars begin, the massive juggernaut of the Imperial Guard is mobilised...

The Craftworld Eldar - A proud and noble race, which once ruled the universe...

The Dark Eldar - These twisted, evil Eldar carry off thousands of prisoners to torture unspeakably...

The Chaos Space Marines - Those Space Marines who were corrupted and now serve the Dark Gods...

The Orks - A brutal, warlike race who like nothing better than a good fight to the death....

The Tyranids - A terrifying race of monstrous aliens which threatens to overcome the galaxy...

Sisters of Battle - The elite fighting arm of the Ecclesiarchy, pursuing Wars of Faith across the galaxy...

Necrons - An ancient and terrifying race of machines whose purpose is unknown...

Space Crusade - Drifting out of the warp come huge Space Hulks, full of the foul children of Chaos...
