Warhammer 40k:

Ultramarines vs Eldar

The largest battle on Thursday was a 1500 pt skirmish between Hugh's Eldar and Addison's Space Marines. The contest was fierce as the game would decide their positions in the 40k ladder. Hugh's army was made up of two large blocks of guardians, as well as Howling Banshees, Dire Avengers, Wraithguard and Shining Spears. The army was also led by the fearsome Avatar. Addison's Space marines were also an attacking force. On one flank was a Land Speeder, while on the other was a mighty Land Raider Crusader, carrying the Command HQ and a squad of assault marines. Terminators and Scuts covered the centre of the battle line, supported by two Tactical Squads, a Devastator Squad and a Dreadnought.

The eldar had the first turn, and advanced, pouring withering fire into the Space Marines as they did so. The Bright Lance of the Shing Spears Exarch only narrowly missed killing the Land Raider, Stunning the crew instead. The rest of the army did little damage, but a few other Space Marines fell dead, shuriken rounds embedded in their flesh.

In the Space Marines turn they also advanced, ready to take revenge on the alien Eldar. However, their Assault Squad were just out of range of the Guardian Squad, so could not make it to combat this turn. The Land Speeder and Land Raider both advanced, the skimmer's multi-melta incinerating a single Eldar. The Avatar also took a wound among all the bolter rounds which were flying.

The third turn of the Eldar proved decisive - the Avatar made it into combat with the scouts, and the Shining Spears charged the terminators. However, this was not before the Exarch finished the job he had begun the turn before, by blowing up the Land Raider with a well-aimed shot from his Bright Lance! The Assault sqaud was also ravaged by Shuriken fire, with over half of its members dying. In combat, the Avatar had no trouble in despatching the scouts. The Shing Spears, surprisingly failed to wound any of the Terminators, but also took no damage in return!

With this the time ran out and the game ended, but the result was in fact a narrow victory for the Eldar, resulting in Hugh overtaking Addison in the Ladder!

Warhammer 40k:

Crimson Fists vs

Dark Eldar

The other game was a fight to the death between a small Space Marine party commanded by Robert Howden, and a Dark Eldar raiding force led by Bryan. The two armies faced off dramatically in a ruined outpost, but by the end of the game, both armies were in ruins too!

The Space Marines lost their leader to lucky shooting by the Dark Eldar Warriors, and their biker and Land Speeder were also shot down. Only the scouts and assault sqaud made it intact to the Dark Eldar lines, but they were also brutally cut apart in close combat by the evil warriors.

However, it was not all one-way traffic. The Dark Eldar lost all three of their reaver jetbikes, and one squad of warriors was wiped out.

Nevertheless, as all the Space Marines were dead, the game was a resounding victory for Bryan, defeating the seasoned general Robert!
