I'm sure you've all heard about how the Inquisitor game involves numerous different Inquisitor factions, but as yet there haven't been any rumours about the actual story. Someone sent in the rumour that the Inquisitor story may involve some new technology which has been discovered that has the potential to bring the Emperor out of the Golden Throne (and I assume restore him to his former, walking glory). However it may also kill him, and the various factions of the Inquisition are split over what to do - take the risk or leave the Emperor as he is. Of course, this raises the question of why they don't just ask the Emperor himself, although I don't know if anyone can psychically communicate with the Emperor, which would obviously be the only way. We'll see.
According to my source, Inquisitor is more an RPG than skirmish game, with no more than 3 models per side needed. All games are narrative based, using a third party Game Master to develop the story. The game is apparently going to be released in May (WD 257 in the UK) and White Dwarf will support the releases until September (note - interesting as everyone was expecting an Easter release - guess we'll have to wait and see).
The game will apparently be available as a book (£20) or boxed game (£40). There are to be three boxed game versions, each containing a different two models. Models come in 3 classes; Leader, Henchman and Character, and miniatures will cost around £10 or £12 each.
After September, Fanatic will continue to support the game, and among the new models from fanatic will be Chaos and Genestealer Cultists, a female zealot and an Eldar Ranger/Pathfinder. The game itself features no points values or fixed statlines, and the latter are chosen by the player (although I presume these are chosen within set limits). Possible actions during a turn can best be summed up as follows:
"You can roll out of a window, snap off 4 shots with your gun, blowing a guy's hand off, duck behind cover and than sprint round a corner, all in one turn"
Over 150 individual weapons and items are going to feature in the 192 page rulebook, including 4 different types of bolter, each with 5 different ammo types, different loading times, rates of fire and possible customisations. Psychic powers also feature heavily, but the main emphasis is the kind of heroics only seen before in the stories in Inferno and Warhammer Monthly.
