'The innumerable warriors of
the Imperial Guard form the backbone of the Imperium's fighting
strength. Their numbers are so vast and their campaigns so widely
scattered across the galaxy that even the Adepts of Earth hace little
idea of their exact strength and deployment. After a conflict has
ended, the regiments involved are often left where they are,
forgotten, until years or even decades later.
While individual Guardsmen cannot match the strength, ferocity and ruthlessness of the Space Marines, Imperial Guard regiments are powerful fighting forces comprising thousands of men with hundreds of tanks, artillery pieces and armoured vehicles. Even the smallest detachment of Imperial Guard is likely to be supported by a Leman Russ battle tank or Chimera fighting vehicles. In larger battles the Imperial Guard can deploy whole phalanxes of tanks and vehicles backed up by swarms of infantry and long-range artillery.'
