The Denizens of the Space Hulk
This is not an army as such, but a collection of a few different armies who fight for control of the space hulk. They are divided into three main groups - Space Marines, Chaos and Eldar...
Space Marines
Space Marines are the main assualt force in Space Crusade. They come in three chapters - Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, and Ultramarines - operating in squads of 5 or 7 men. They have an average move but very good armour, which makes them dead hard to kill. Their main advantage is their selection of weapons. They can |

take up to 3 heavy weapons in a 5 man squad, or 5 in a 7 man squad. These include the ultra-nasty Tarantula mobile gun platform (above left) and the fusion gun, rocket launcher and assault cannon. The Space Marine Commander is also deadly in close combat when armed with a power sword and power claw, and with 6 wounds and melta bombs can take on dreadnaughts in hand-to-hand.
Chaos Space Marines
Chaos Space Marines are the twisted dark kin of the Space Marines. They are similar in many respects but the Chaos Marines only have access to one rocket launcher per squad. Also, their commander is not so good in an assualt, but his heavy bolter is not to be taken lighty. Chaos Marines are one of the medium difficulty enemies which appear in a game of Space Crusade, but they should not be dismissed, as their bolters and especially the rocket launcher can do a lot of damage to closely packed troops. Because of their armour, the best way to kill Chaos Space Marines is either to shoot them with heavy weapons or take them out in an assualt by your commander.
Orks and Gretchin
Gretchin, or Grots, are the weakest creatures on the Space Hulk. They wear no armour, and carry only light weaponry. However, they have a large move, so they can easily double team your marines in an assault. |
Orks are the big cousins of the Gretchin. They have some armour and are better in close combat. However they only have move 6, so you can kill them before they get too close. Their weaponry should not worry you. |
Androids & Dreadnaughts
Androids are Chaotic robots who specialise in an assault. However, they have a small move, so make it your priority to kill them before they get close to you. |
Model Not Painted Yet |
The larger, and deadlier version of the Android is the Dreadnaught. It is also deadly in close combat, but can carry an array of heavy weapons plus a bolter. They have multiple wounds so it is best to take them out with very heavy guns like the Tarantula, or to assault them with a commander, using melta bombs to finish them off.
Eldar
The Eldar are sworn to destroy the incursion of Chaos in the galaxy. They are extremely skilled warriors and can move very quickly. Their main weaknesses are their light armour and light weaponry. The spearhead of an Eldar assault is their Exarch. With his combination of special powers and equipment, he can make mincemeat of almost any enemy. The Eldar also benefit from the use of psychic powers, allowing them to erect impenetrable screens to block missile fire. When used well, Eldar will win almost all the time, but when it all goes wrong, they are likely to be quickly overwhelmed and wiped out totally. |
