Best Warhammer 40,000 Single Miniature 1999:

Chaos Space Marine

This Chaos Space Marine is actually taken from the Space Crusade, that old 40k-esque game. He carries a missile launcher and would act as part of a squad of 5 marines.

The Chaos Marine was painted to represent the pure evil of the warp. This is why it was painted in mainly dark colours with the lighting streaks showing the power of Chaos, especially the eight pointed star od Chaos on his shoulder pad .

The model was undercoated black, then painted with Midnight Blue. Lightning was then added, starting with lines of Enchanted Blue, highlighted with Lightning Blue, then Skull White. The Armour rims were painted with Shining Gold, but were washed with brown to give them a slightly rusted appearance. The edges of the backpack and the helmet horns were painted in Bleached Bone, and the horns were painted over with Red Ink. This was also used to fill in the eye slit in the helmet, emphasising the brutal nature of Chaos Marines. The rocket launcher was painted mainly with Chaos Black, Skull White and Chainmail. It is designed to look like a weapon which would have been carried by a true Space Marine, but has an added flame motif, which would have been painted on when he sold his soul to Chaos. The model was not varnished, party because it is plastic i.e. unlikely to get chipped paint but also because I thought that shininess did not fit in very well with the image of a follower of Chaos.
