Cadian MLCXVII Tank Company

This Cadian Army is still in its infancy, but will be very much based around tanks, tanks, and more tanks. It is led by Lord Commander Bogus Maximus and his Command HQ, and consists of an infantry squad, a fire support team, a Hellhound and a Basilisk.

Lord Commander Bogus Maximus

Bogus Maximus, leader of the Cadian MLCXVII Tank Company is a relatively unassuming character. However, he commands unquestioning repect from his troops. On the battlefield, he carries a variety of equipment. His main weapon is a storm bolter, which he salvaged from the wreckage of his previous command tank. He also carries his regulation las-pistol although he never uses it. For protection he wears carapace armour, and under his cap, has his trademark item, the monobrow! At the darkest hour of battle, he will reveal this remarkable piece of facial hair, spurring his troops on to greater things!

Command HQ

Bogus Maximus is always accompanied into battle by his loyal Command HQ. This consists of his four most loyal soldiers, all carrying vital pieces of equipment. One, shown here holds a meltagun, which is excellent for damaging tanks and heavily armoured infantry. Also in the squad is a comm-link which allows Lord Maximus to communicate his battle plan to the troops. Finally, the squad also includes a heavy weapon team, which can be anything from the deadly Lascannon to the stalwart Heavy Bolter.

Preacher

The Preacher is a rather unusual addition to the Cadian MLCXVII Tank Company. He often inspires the troops before battle with inspirational readings and prayers to the Emporer. This is represented by his higher-than-average leadership of 8, and so he can be added to a unit to bolster them and stop them from falling back. In combat, he is nothing special, but in addition to his shotgun, he carries a chainsword and las-pistol to give him an extra attack.

Guardsmen

Guardsmen are a very versatile type of basic troop. They are very cheap compared to Space Marines, so you can have lots of them. The basic strength 3, AP - lasgun doesn't seem very impressive, but in numbers it can do a lot of damage. The squad is led by a sergeant with two close combat weapons and also includes a flamer (for close range) and a missile launcher (for harder targets). The squad can also be mounted in a Chimera for extra adaptability and speed.

Special and Heavy Weapons

These weapons give a lot of flexibitily to the Imperial Guard Commander. Heavy weapons can be put in squads, or in small groups on their own. This allows them to sit back and fire, without having to move into position. There are three types of heavy weapon squads - the Fire Support squad, made up of Heavy Bolters and Autocannons excells at taking out infantry; The Mortar

squad, which can cover large areas with barrages of blast templates, pinning the enemy down; The Anti-tank squad, made up of Lascannons and missile launchers, is excellent for destroying tanks and heavily armoured targets like Space Marines. Last but not least, weapons like flamers, plasma guns, meltas etc. can be added to your squads for taking out specific targets. Can't you just smell that toasted Eldar flesh?

Fire Support Team

At the moment, this squad consists of two heavy bolter teams and an autocannon team. This is fine for tearing through lots of fairly lightly armoured opponents but is not so good against vehicles and Space Marines because of its fairly low strength and AP. Because of this, I intend to get some lascannon teams, so that I can take them specifically for fighting Space Marines, who are particularly numerous around here...

Hellhound

The fast attack choice for this army at the moment is a Hellhound flame tank. It is deadly for rushing close up to the enemy and burning up lots of light armoured troops. An alternative to this would be a squad of Sentinels, which are a definite possibility, now that the new models are out.

Basilisk

A Basilisk makes an excellent heavy support choice. It can sit at the back of the battlefield in cover, and drop large bombardments down onto the enemy. As well as causing a lot of damage this can also pin the enemy, stopping them getting into an assualt. This also gives the rest of your army more time to shoot at the oncoming enemy. Its strength 9 and AP 3 also make it an excellent Space Marines killer...
